A unique and captivating landscape, the salt marshes of Guérande are a mosaic of shapes and colours ... light gray in the morning, bright white when the sun is high, violet at sunset, a surprise from season to season.
It is an area of 2000 hectares of marshes, cultivated and non-cultivated, with international protection status and recognition for its ecological value.
It was the monks who, in studying the tides, wind and sun in the year 945 traced the plan of “Salines” (salt flats) whose contours have changed little since.
It is this tradition of saltworks, whose techniques date back to the 9th century, and the continuation of these same skills, that have truly allowed the marshes of Guérande to come to life.
